About the role

As a Transport Planner, you willprovide thought and technical leadership to the Transport Planning team and support an integrated, safe, sustainable, and efficient transport system that meets the needs of communities and business now and in the future.

This is a permanent full-time role, working 40 hours per week between 6:00am and 6:00pm at 306 Cameron Road.You will work in the Bay of Plenty region only.

The minimum remuneration or this role is $91,421.00, and the maximum remuneration for this roleis $123,687.00.

The role will ensure that transport strategy and planning is current and aligned with national, regional, and other council direction and strategies. You will contribute to the leadership of the Citys strategic direction for transport and its alignment and integration with key legislation to support its implementation. You will lead the development and delivery of best practice integrated transport strategies, studies, business cases, plans and bylaws for Tauranga. As well as Identify and develop tools and policies which enable Council to enhance development patterns and practices which support integrated, safe, sustainable, and efficient transportation modes. Ensuring strong collaboration between TCC and sub-regional partners like Tangata Whenua, District Councils, the Regional Council and Waka Kotahi.

The role will also ensure that there is an effective transport system that allows for development. Making sure documents exist for all projects in the RLTP, Long Term Plan and 30 Year Infrastructure Strategy that include an evaluation of how those projects deliver key identified strategic outcomes. You will provide transportation planning input into the development of business cases, major transport projects and plan changes. Progressing TCC capital works projects internally for preliminary and detailed design, tendering and delivery. This includes concept design, designation, land acquisition and consenting as required. Supporting developers, consultants, and surveyors at spatial and structure planning levels to achieve quality urban development areas supported by multimodal transport. Promoting the quality and efficiency use of public transport and cycling as a travelling option. You will act as an expert witness at public inquiries, hearings and planning appeals, including the writing of clear reports, and presenting recommendations.

The role also ensures that decision makers received trusted advice. SmartGrowth teams are well informed on the transportation issues and options. Taking a lead role in representing the interests of Tauranga in the development and review of the Regional Land Transport Plan (led by Bay of Plenty Regional Council). Ensuring there is strong alignment across the Councils Long Term Plan and sub-regional partner Long Term Plans for transport. Ensuring a high level of awareness of the urban development, land use and transport issues that the city faces, and the initiatives required to respond to those issues exists amongst Councils decision makers and members of the Councils Executive Team. Ensuring Council issues and projects are reflected in the RLTP. The role will provide accurate technical support and advice. You will provide detailed analysis and interpretation of data and trends are developed and used to provide effective solutions and informed decisions. Ensures projects with long lead times, consent applications and processes are successfully initiated and managed to ensure project delivery timeframes are not compromised. Mentors and supports with technical leadership transport planners and modellers.

What youll need to succeed

To succeed in this role, youll bring:

  • A qualification in Transport Planning or Civil Transportation Engineering or relevant equivalent, AND
  • 4 years or more experience in transportation strategy, policy, and planning including option development and evaluation
