Selection Criteria
- Demonstrated capacity to work effectively as part of a team.
- Administration skills including a knowledge of computer software programs such as Microsoft Office.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work with teachers and students.
- Ability to perform tasks in one or more of the following areas: office procedures; accounting procedures; sick bay; hospitality and /or design and technology; science.

Newcastle High School is a large, inclusive, and diverse comprehensive school, situated on two sites in the centre of the City of Newcastle. The Parkway Avenue site is in Hamilton South and caters for students from Year 7 through to Year 12, with a diverse, mainstream curriculum. The Cooks Hill Campus site is on Laman and Union Streets and delivers an alternative curriculum in partnership with Big Picture Education and caters for students from Year 9 through to Year 12. The School Administrative Officer (SAO) position being recruited is on the Parkway Avenue site. Student enrolment in 2023 is approximately 1,207, with 136 students at Cooks Hill Campus; 11% identify as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, 3% have English as an additional language or dialect. We have a Support Unit made up of seven classes with 67 students. The Technical and Applied Studies (TAS) faculty at Newcastle High School has many thriving courses across the Food and Textiles technology areas, with a commercial hospitality kitchen.
