Suppor! ts life functions during peri-operative period. Recognizes and takes appropriate action for untoward patient responses during anesthesia. Observes and manages patient's emergence from anesthesia. Participates in life support of patient including, but not limited to, peri-anesthetic and clinical support functions. Participates in periodic and joint evaluation of services. Organizes and continuously improves operations of department in collaboration with chief. Ensures delivery of affordable, appropriate, accessible, and quality anesthesia care and services that meet needs of members and internal customers. Fulfills responsibilities coordinated and integrated with care provided by anesthesiologists. Coordinates efforts to aggressively advance vision, mission, strategic plan and annual objectives of hospital, region and department.
Essential Functions:
- Provides pre-anesthetic preparation & patient evaluation.
- Obtains appropriate health his! tory.
- Ensures patient identification. Recommends, req! uests, & evaluates pertinent diagnostic studies.
- Documents preanesthetic evaluation. Obtains informed consent for anesthesia.
- Selects and/or administers preanesthetic medications.
- Selects, prepares & administers anesthetic agents or other agents administered in mgmt of anesthetic care.
- Informs Anesthesiologist and/or surgeon of changes in patient's condition.
- Provides anesthesia induction, maintenance, emergence, & post anesthesia care. Inserts invasive line catheter/devices.
- Performs tracheal intubation & extubation, airway mgmt.
- Provides mechanical ventilation. Performs venous & arterial punctures.
- Obtains blood samples.
- Performs & manages regional anesthetic.
- Manages patient's fluid, blood, electrolyte & acid base balance.
- Provides perianesthetic invasive & non-invasive monitoring utilizing current standards & techniques.
- Responds to abnormal findings with correcti! ve action.
- Recognizes & treats cardiac dysrhythmias through use of perianesthetic electrocardiogram monitoring.
- Evaluates patient response during emergence from anesthesia.
- Institutes pharmacological or supportive treatment to insure adequacy of patient recovery from anesthesia & adjuvant drugs.
- Provides post anesthesia follow-up, report, & evaluation of patient's response to anesthesia & for potential anesthetic complication.
- Takes appropriate corrective actions; requests consultation whenever indicted.
- Documents anesthesia related care in thorough & timely manner.
- Identifies & manages emergency situations. Initiates or participates in cardiopulmonary resuscitation that involves airway maintenance, ventilation, tracheal intubation, pharmacologic cardiovascular support, & mgmt of blood, fluid, electrolyte & acid-base balance.

- Participates in periodic & joint evaluation of services to ensure ! safe & high quality care.
- Performs or orders equipment safety checks as needed.
- Notifies supervisor or Anesthesiologist of needed equipment adjustments/repairs; cleans & sterilizes equipment as needed.
- Orders supplies to assure adequate inventory.
- Responds to unit emergencies.
- Directs staff in crisis situation.
- Responds to patient/family complaints.
- Fulfills role of advocate for patients & families.
- Supervises & evaluates direct patient care provided by staff anesthetists.
- Performs necessary administrative functions.
- Plans, develops, & implements departmental conferences & in-service meetings.

Basic Qualifications:
- Two (2) years of supervisory experience required.
- Five (5) years of anesthesia experience in hospital or medical center required.
- Graduate from acc! redited nurse anesthesia program required.
- Valid Hawaii RN License (must meet education requirement(s) for Hawaii State licensure) required.
- Valid Hawaii APRN recognition (must meet education requirement (s) for Hawaii State recognition) (must obtain within six months of hire) required.
- Certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA) by the american association of nurse anesthetists (AANA) required.
- Current BLS for healthcare provider CPR or CPR/AED for the professional rescuer certification or ACLS required.
- National provider identifier (NPI) and taxonomy code required at time of hire.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in the oral communication, written communication, interpersonal relations, customer service, adaptability, change management, and leadership required.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in word processing PC applications required.
- Two (2) ! years anesthesia care in acute setting experience preferred.
