Under general supervision and as credentialed and privileged, provides anesthesia care of patient including, but not limited to, pre-anesthetic preparation and evaluation, selection, and ad! ministration of anesthetic agents or other agents administered in management of anesthetic care, anesthesia induction, maintenance, emergence, and post anesthesia care. Supports life functions during peri-operative period. Recognizes and takes appropriate action for untoward patient responses during anesthesia. Observes and manages patient's emergence from anesthesia. Participates in life support of patient including, but not limited to, peri-anesthetic, and clinical support functions. Participates in periodic and joint evaluation of services.

Essential Functions:

  • Provides pre-anesthetic preparation and patient evaluation; obtains appropriate health history; ensures patient identification; recommends, requests, and evaluates pertinent diagnostic studies; documents preanesthetic evaluation; obtains informed consent for anesthesia; selects and/or administers preanesthetic medications
  • Selects, prepares, and administers anesthetic agents or! other agents administered in management of anesthetic care; i! nforms Anesthesiologist and/or surgeon of changes in patient's condition
  • Provides anesthesia induction, maintenance, emergence, and post anesthesia care; inserts invasive line catheter/devices including, but not limited to, intravenous, central intravenous, and arterial catheters; performs tracheal intubation and extubation, airway management; provides mechanical ventilation; performs venous and arterial punctures
  • Obtains blood samples; performs and manages regional anesthetic including, but not limited to subarachnoid and epidural blocks, intravenous regional anesthesia, transtracheal, topical and local infiltration blocks
  • Manages patient's fluid, blood, electrolyte and acid base balance
  • Provides perianesthetic invasive and non-invasive monitoring utilizing current standards and techniques
  • Responds to abnormal findings with corrective action; recognizes and treats cardiac dysrhythmias through use of perianesthetic electrocardiog! ram monitoring
  • Documents anesthesia related care in thorough and timely manner
  • Identifies and manages emergency situations; initiates or particpates in cardiopulmonary resuscitation that involves airway maintenance, ventilation, tracheal intubation, pharmacologic cardiovascular support, and management of blood, fluid, electrolyte, and acid-base balance

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
  • Graduate of accredited nurse anesthesia program
  • Valid Hawaii RN License (must meet education requirement(s) for Hawaii State licensure)
  • Valid Hawaii APRN Recognition (must meet education requirement (s) for Hawaii State recognition) (must obtain within six months of hire)
  • Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA)
  • Current BLS for Healthcare Provider CPR or C! PR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification or ACLS
  • Nati! onal Provider Identifier (NPI) and Taxonomy code required at time of hire
  • Strong patient assessment skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in oral communication, written communication, interpersonal relations, customer service, adaptability, and change management
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in word processing PC application
  • Talking to co-workers, customers, outside vendors, and on the telephone
  • Reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English
  • Training/giving and receiving instructions
  • Mathematical ability, attention to detail (e.g. organization, prioritization, proofing), concentration, and alertness
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Two years of anesthesia care in acute setting experience
